March 30, 2025 – Richmond, BC – The Jean Ip Foundation is proud to announce that we have received funding in part from the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program to enhance our seniors volunteer program.

Today’s seniors are living longer and are more active, but too many still suffer from social isolation. This initiative is designed to mobilize seniors in our community to engage meaningfully in local events that directly support underprivileged seniors and Canadian post-secondary students.

With the support from the New Horizons for Seniors Program, the Jean Ip Foundation is providing specialized training in event-specific crowd control, situational awareness, team coordination, and effective communication to 20 senior volunteers. These seniors will take on leadership roles at three major rice distribution events and a scholarship award ceremony.

Through this program, our scholarship recipients from accredited Canadian institutions will also be encouraged to connect with our senior volunteers, creating meaningful intergenerational bonds while giving back to the community. An estimated 3,000 seniors from underserved populations will benefit from these outreach efforts.

“With the additional funding from the federal government, we are able to extend our ability to help the underprivileged — often overlooked by the rest of society. This program brings dignity, purpose, and connection to both our senior volunteers and the students who serve alongside them.”
Larry Liu, Chairperson

The New Horizons for Seniors Program is a federal grants and contributions program that aims to support projects enhancing the well-being of seniors and promoting social inclusion and engagement within their communities.
