The Jean Ip Foundation, a non-profit organization, is named after its founder, Ms. Jean Sheung-Chi Ip, a Canadian entrepreneur.
Ms. Ip was born in Hong Kong in 1938, immigrated to Canada in 1973, graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1964, and worked in Hong Kong for several years before returning to settle in Vancouver, British Columbia, where she found great success in the Canadian real estate sector — including farmland in Saskatchewan.
Ms. Ip was a devout Christian, and stemming from her principle of “putting God’s love into action, through kindness to one another”, her vision for the Foundation was to utilize the agricultural and farming assets from her portfolio as a means of helping those who are in need.
On August 6, 2018, the Jean Ip Foundation was registered as a charitable organization under the Income Tax Act (Canada), (Charitable Registration No. 771509718RR0001).
The purposes of the Foundation are:
1. To relieve poverty by providing food and other basic necessities of life to individuals and families who are in need;
2. To advance education by providing publicly available scholarships, bursaries, and other forms of financial assistance to individuals for post-secondary education;
3. To receive gifts, bequests, funds, and property, and to hold, invest, administer and distribute funds and property to such other organizations that are “qualified donees” under the provisions of the Income Tax Act (Canada); and
4. To do all such other things as are incidental and ancillary to the attainment of the foregoing purposes, and to exercise the powers of the Foundation.
